Passionist Oblate Sharings Introduction December 07 Passionist Oblate Meeting The world, especially at this season coaxes us to immerse ourselves in material things, to run around the surface of life, to lose touch with the treasure of God’s loving presence buried in the field of our hearts. St. Augustine wrote: "You were within, I was without...." God loves us so much that He is always trying to get our attention. St. Augustine continued on: "You called, you shouted, you broke through my deafness. You flashed, you shone, you dispelled my blindness." God is calling us on this day of special prayer to be still, to become silent, and to pay attention to Him. He is calling us to experience His abiding love. We have a temple of prayer within us, filled with the presence of the living God, but we can become estranged from this awareness in the midst of the so-called "Christmas rush" season if we do not take time to "be still" and be in the presence of God. To enter our temple of prayer requires that we be silent, and listen to God’s life of love within us. What we will reflect on today is nothing new. You have heard it many times before in our Oblate teachings, but this is a good time to revisit it, and stir up the grace of God that has been given to us. Today is a good time to revisit our call to live with God in the depths of our hearts, to rest in His abiding love. We carry about in our hearts a hidden treasure. But the question remains: do we have to say to God what St. Augustine did: "You were within, and I was without"?
